Pair of English Cast Iron Garden Urns with Plinths c.1870

Pair of English Cast Iron Garden Urns with Plinths c.1870

A fine pair of large-scale English cast iron garden urns c.1870.
Each urn is generously proportioned, with bold gadrooned decoration to the body, acanthus leaf scroll handles, and a wide everted rim with classical scrolling detail. They are raised on integral square-section bases with moulded panels and stepped plinths, to give them strong architectural presence.

Created in heavy cast iron, they retain layers of old paint and a timeworn patina, with areas of flaking and weathered surface that enhance their authenticity and decorative appeal. Once the centrepieces within the grounds of a Victorian garden, they would have been designed either for planting with seasonal displays or as statement features in their own right.

Perfect for flanking an entrance, lining a garden avenue, or anchoring a formal terrace, these urns combine classical form with the romantic surface character of age.
