The hinged lid divided by interwoven studded leather straps into a grid of rectangular panels framing the date and initials. Notable details are the sheet metal corner brackets and an iron hasp, lock and key to the centre above a second lock securing the secret concealed fall-front compartment at the base. The interior beautifully lined in hand-marbled paper. The sides fitted with blacksmith made handles.
