Large Carved Italian Silver and Gilt Mirror c.1860
A ornate, rare and unusual Italian floor-standing mirror c.1860. Featuring mythological creatures including Dragons and Phoenix hidden amongst a Garden of Eden full of foliate decoration, flora and fruits. The raw umber and sangue di bue gesso bole underlays remnants of silver and gold leaf water-gilding. With completely original, perfectly fairied mercury glass. This truly is a very unusual and incredibly beautiful example. I have never seen one like this in 25 years of buying Italian antiques!
